Maximum Gross Vehicle Weights during the COVID-19 Pandemic
The states listed on this page currently allow a maximum gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 88,000 lbs. or higher on interstates for emergency supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The states on this list may have increased their allowable GVW during the pandemic or, in some cases, they may already allow a GVW above 88,000 lbs. Route restrictions may apply, and states may still require permits. Before moving an overweight or oversize load in any state, be sure to contact the state’s permit office. The website and phone number for each state permit’s office is available on this FHWA web page, and changes to state permit offices during the COVID-19 pandemic can be found on this Specialize Carriers and Rigging Association web page.
State Emergency Declarations and changes to weight allowances and hours of service are available in this folder.
